This is notable given that solar's installed capacity was 1.9 times greater than wind's. Nevertheless, solar power is rapidly closing the gap despite its lower utilization rate. Since these statistics exclude concentrated solar power and the most recent year's data, solar may have already ascended to become the second-largest provider of carbon-free electricity (after hydro). If not, it is almost certain to achieve this status before the end of the decade.
